Studies in the United States of Florida, Michigan, and New York as well as the countries of Brazil and Argentina prove the reduction in recidivism (return to jail) of inmates who participate in religous study while incarcerated. The Olmos maximum security prison near Buenos Aires, Argentina claims a 40 % recidivism rate overall with less than 1 % of the released religous inmates returning. A phenomenonal success! The Detroit [Michigan] Prison Fellowship Ministries' reports a recidivism rate of only 9 % while the United States national average is 60%. Other studies also show definite reductions in the return to prison of inmates who participated in religous study while incarcerated.
